[Admin] Clarification on the 'help me find the girl next door' thread. In a follow-up thread, someone indignantly asked, 'who the hell deleted it?'. Others were more polite, but the question remained. I did. Here's why: There is a difference between: A. "PMIT with someone who possesses a certain skill or knowledge am looking (in the case of knowledge, not easily googleable), because I need help with a certain task and I am stuck without this skill or knowledge." and, B. PMIT with a certain specific unique person - a long lost friend or 'friend', because I've lost contact with that person and finding this person is itself the goal. A is in the spirit of PMIT. B isn't. For B, exceptions are made in cases of lost wallet, etc., wherein the OP does not start with the intent of finding the unique person because he/she wanted to, but because the intent (presumably) is to return the person's belongings. Also, there is no end to B. 72,014 members (current count) cannot be posting about their (respective) lost lost childhood crushes. While yesterday's post ended nicely, and we had no reason to suspect the motive of the OP at all, the same can't be said for similar posts. If we let post one be, we'll have to allow all similar such posts, purely from a fairness point of view. See the problem? Folks, you shouldn't take the full form of PMIT literally. Cheers!
