My brother shipped me a second hand camera from Germany and paid the necessary shipping charges to DHL. I get a call from my local post office today who asked me to pay an amount of Rs. 23000 as custom duty! As shocked as I was, I enquired about this with the post office and they said that they couldn't do anything about it as it was the customs department that had issued a duty on it. My brother and I had no idea about this much amount that would have been levied on the parcel or else he wouldn't have shipped the parcel in the first place. The amount is literally the half price of the camera. And to top it all, it was a second hand camera that my brother had shipped and paying so much custom duty for it doesn't make any sense.
