You will be able to understand this group better and benefit more if you spend a couple of minutes going through the more detailed guideline doc (link at the end of this post)] In just a couple of days we will be hitting the 70k members mark and we think it’s time to quickly discuss a couple of guidelines. A summary is present in the cover image that’s just been updated. PMIT was conceived with the idea of it being a platform for members to find people of specific skills. We are keen not to dilute this charter, and keep the group as noise-free as possible. All our rules and guidelines (actually, not that many) are made and enforced to ensure that the group environment is conducive for members to find persons with specific skills or knowledge (carpenter, photographer, movie critic, someone who knows which galli in KR Market has what shops, etc) . In this spirit, here are a couple of guidelines that we've introduced: 1. ‘Help me choose a name, book, movie’ posts: Henceforth, such posts should seek suggestions by posting an external link to a form or a survey. Seeking suggestions via comments is *not* allowed. Comments *will* be deleted and so will posts without an external link be. 2. ‘Help me track my phone or my girlfriend’ posts: We would have thought this point must be rather obvious, but going by the sheer number of posts that seek help in tracing a mobile phone or a person, we thought we should spell this out: any form of tracking or tracing a person or a car or a phone requires the involvement of law enforcement agencies. Go to the cops. Don’t ask on an FB group. If your phone came with a tracking application (or you have installed one), just please read the application’s documentation. You should have ideally tested the app yourself. 3. ‘Invite for a phone’ posts: Everyone wants an invite, whether or not they are going to buy the product; and posts on these end up pushing other and more valid PMIT posts down. Sorry, PMIT isn't the place to seek invites. Some matters of courtesy: 1. Be as specific in your query as possible. You help people help you better by being specific. 2. When responding, read at least the last few comments. Don’t just jump right in. 3. When a thread is declared closed, please respect it. Don’t force us to delete the thread. 4. Getting a response is a privilege and *not* a right. Request, don’t demand. 5. Consider using the group’s search feature if you think your query might be a common one.
